Published in 1948 by Harcourt Brace, this hardcover first regular edition is a treasure for both literary enthusiasts and collectors.
Carl Sandburg was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on January 6, 1878. The Sandburgs were very poor; Carl left school at the age of thirteen to work odd jobs, from laying bricks to dishwashing, to help support his family.
This first regular edition was released following a limited de luxe edition of 1,000 copies. The book is bound in a sturdy hardcover, although it lacks the original dust jacket. The book shows signs of wear typical for its age but retains its structural integrity.
